Vanquished Gods
Witches, vampires, one fae, and a Jane Eyre moment… 🤔
🎥 In a Snapshot
I received an ARC.

Check out my review of Hallowed Games, the first book in this duet, here.
Highlights
This duology is not their finest work. There’s potential story-wise, but the execution is lacking.
What to Expect
- Enemies to lovers
- Love triangle, maybe
- Late romance
- Multiple fantastical creatures
- Supposed prophecy
- Death as a power
- Inspired in the Inquisition
- Hidden truths
- Slow pace, few action
What I Missed
💭
I feel the author rushed this release. It’s their book with the most writing mistakes and flawed plot I’ve read from them. There’s work to be improved when closing open loops with convincing, strong and grounded arguments.
- In 70% of the story, not much happened. Therefore, they only had 30% to solve the main conflict and bring us romance. As a result, it was all rushed.
- In the first book, there’s a romantic relationship in the making. In the second book, we have a different one. If this was a love triangle, where was the tension? I did’t get a satisfying closure from the first paramour nor a sufficient paved road for the next one.
- The world is weak. Apart, we have humans, vampires, witches… We learn some of the kingdom history and why the power imbalance came to happen by the end of the book. Then, there’s one fae oracle—where’s the rest of the race? There are other vampires not actively involved in the story. So, why all this weird mix?
- There’s a half-baked prophecy that doesn’t really foresee anything. In my opinion, it was unnecessary.
🚨 Spoiler Alert
There’s an immortal Pater. Some took years to discover his weakness—unsuccessfully. Then, the main character suddenly figures out a solution, and finds out the root of his power in one short mission—which is not the same as knowing how to kill him. The latter becomes evident in his final scene. Will he die or stay in some kind of stasis? Everything surrounding this Pater figure is unclear and inconclusive.
