Review

The Scarlet Veil (The Scarlet Veil #1)

🔗Author: Shelby Mahurin
📚
This duology is set in the world of Mahurin’s Serpent & Dove series. Its finale will be published in 2025.

Highlights

The premise was intriguing and up to a point, the book was as well. I highlight some of the secondary characters.

What to Expect

  • Enemies to lovers
  • Love triangle
  • Damsel in distress
  • Multiple fantastical creatures
  • Slow pace and little action
  • Very slow burn romance

What I Missed

  • Personal taste, I don’t like damsels in distress. However, I don’t mind a main character, who starts as such and evolves. In here, the evolution was forced—characters having to compliment her for us to appreciate her courage and value? It didn’t work for me, especially when her decisions were always impulsive and lacked cleverness and strategy.
  • Parts of the story lacked credibility. I don’t understand how the fiercest and most powerful creatures in this world are so easily succumbed and outmaneuvered by such inferior enemies.
THE END
