Review

Red Queen (Red Queen #1)

🔗Author: Victoria Aveyard

Highlights

⚠️
Note that many dislike this series for its similarities to Red Rising. As I haven’t read the latter, it didn’t compromise my experience. Therefore, be aware if you’re familiar with Pierce Brown’s work, you might not enjoy this book the same way.

I liked some of the twists by the end of the book. As I said earlier, not being able to compare this work with any other allowed me to enjoy it and be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

What to Expect

  • Enemies to lovers
  • Love triangle
  • Few romantic scenes
  • Class discrimination
  • Oppressed vs oppressor
  • Rebellion of the “weak”
  • Lies, conspiracies, betrayals, secrets
  • Violence, torture and death
  • Twists
  • YA
  • Ends with cliffhanger

What I Missed

  • The romantic chemistry/tension among the characters wasn’t very strong. So, it’s still early for me to root for any particular couple.
