Note: This book has also been published as The Crimson Moth.
Highlights
I liked the magic system. How witches cast their spells and the physical manifestation and symbolism of such act was innovative.
What to Expect
- Enemies to lovers
- Fake seduction game
- Love triangle
- Deceiving appearances
- Witch vs witch hunter
- Secret agendas
- Misunderstandings
- Inquisition-like era
- Opposite social classes
- Forbidden magic
- Dual POV
What I Missed
- The Crimson Moth is portrayed as a cunning strategizer. However, in a couple of instances, we’re given the opposite. Therefore, the character’s naivety or unsuspicion dampened the mood for me.
- I’m not convinced about the ending. On one hand, I see certain results as unnecessary; a pointless sacrifice—even when it was born from love. On the other hand, it felt like an easy way out or the easy solution to a complicated triangle.
🤔
In conclusion, the verdict will be out once I read the sequel and final book in this duology: is the hype well placed?
