Welcome to a new edition of Fae News. Find my book picks for this month and save time choosing what to read next.

Book of the Month

I was recently introduced to a fae who could shift into a crow, and I have to say the choice of animal surprised me. And maybe it was in part because of that, that this book captivated me.

I know, I know, there are probably more books with fae crows, like a series I fortuitously just readā€”The Kingdom of Crows by Olivia Wildensteinā€”, but for me, Wings of Ink was my first.

In this ongoing series, youā€™ll face mysterious creatures and events. Thereā€™s danger and many things happening behind curtains, which Ayna needs to uncover to understand her role in this story.

Once a pirate, now a prisoner, and soon-to-be bride of the Crow King, sheā€™s taken to the fairylands, where sheā€™ll have to learn to adapt if she plans on finding a way to freedom.

What she wasnā€™t counting on was her growing attraction for her latest captor; a king, who hides more under the feathers.

Decisions, decisionsā€¦ freedom, love, staying alive, lighting her curiosity and intellectā€¦Thereā€™s definitely plenty to juggle with.

Even when book 2 went sort of on a loop of events and repetition, and premises like once a prisoner, stays a prisoner because of course [duh]ā€¦ Iā€™m dying to see how this story will end.

What else can you expect?

Thereā€™s a je ne sais quoi with this series, really. The author can write whatever she wants and Iā€™ll buy it. But, letā€™s see, in terms of romance, we start with an arranged marriage, but eventually repulsion turns to attraction. This is a new adult Fan-Rom so thereā€™s some spice.

Now, regarding the world, youā€™ll venture to more different landscapes in book 2. However, with the curious magic, the mysterious creatures lurking around and all the secrets, everything turns into a quite enchanting universe.

And I mention the latter, because this series is part of Angelina Steffortā€™s Alcunaire, a metaverse that includes her other series Shattered Kingdom and Quarter Mage.

But letā€™s get back to what originally hooked me, this fae crow. A crow usually symbolises death. And while reading a bit, it seems we can add intelligence, adaptability and destiny to the mix.

Well, you can be sure that wherever these fae crows fly, death will follow, although they wonā€™t be the only torturers. As for wisdom, hmmm questionable, especially in the second book. Adaptability, well, they are shifters arenā€™t they. Also, theyā€™ve had to learn to live under certain restraints, so, yes, it applies. And for the last bit, we know thereā€™s a lot destiny has planned for these characters.

So, if I sparked your curiosity, go and check out this immense universe of humans, fae, shifters, and who knows what elseā€¦

Upcoming releases

Here are my top two upcoming releases for this month:

If you like rough, intense and dominant male characters with a considerable age gap with their usually innocent lamb, then Skye Warren is an option for you. And sheā€™s releasing the sequel to her latest series Tanglewood University, called The Student. If youā€™re familiar with the author, youā€™ll recognise characters from previous series set also in Tanglewood. This one has rough sex, intrigue, betrayals and complicated relationships.

And moving to Fan-Rom, I bring another sequel, this time by the pen of Lauren Roberts. Iā€™m talking about Reckless, second book in The Powerless Trilogy, which as you may know, has raised some hype. A prince and an ā€œordinaryā€ woman cross paths, but it seems danger, secrets and turmoil will define their attraction. I expect to read this series in the months to come.
